Approach and Philosophy

Mersin University’s approach to education and training processes is based on a philosophy that prioritizes student-centred education, regards societal development as part of its mission, operates within the framework of ethical values, produces knowledge with the participation of all shareholders, is environmentally conscious, aware of cultural values, presents scientific studies and research outputs for the benefit of society, prioritizes regional and national development and sustainable growth, and aims to contribute within the context of internationalization.

Mersin University adopts an integrative educational philosophy that considers students’ interests and needs, allows them to specialize according to their preferences, involves them in the teaching process, encourages them to think critically to solve problems, and equips them with lifelong learning skills.

Principles

Mersin University;

1)     Aims to stand out as an institution that provides education in line with contemporary legal regulations, using educational technologies and tools, and addressing local, regional, national, and global priorities.

2)     Bases its teaching programs on international quality standards, qualifications, and accreditation principles and practices. It emphasizes internationalization, supports student and academic staff exchanges, and seeks to increase the number of distinguished international students.

3)     Aims to strengthen and maintain the connection between educational programs and research-development activities through practical training.

4)     Seeks to enhance the accessibility of educational and instructional processes through digital and technology-focused approaches.

5)     Strives to graduate free-thinking, creative, and entrepreneurial individuals who, under the guidance of social responsibility and ethical principles, contribute to science, artistic production, and technological advancements; possess problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities; are internationally competent; respect ethical and professional objectivity rules; are capable of interdisciplinary teamwork; and can transform human and economic potential into added value.

6)     Seeks to employ academic staff who possess the knowledge and skills required by teaching processes, believe in lifelong learning, guide students, produce knowledge, solve problems, share what they learn, are socially responsible, respect human rights, and are constructive and creative.

7)     Utilizes an assessment and evaluation system that integrates learning outcomes with process skills to ensure that achievements and results are accurate, fair, and consistent.

8)     Implements a teaching program within the framework of the Quality Management System that embraces continuous improvement with shareholders who aim to be effective, efficient, competitive, performance-focused, internationally recognized, and reputable in scientific research and societal service.

9)     Through the PDSA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, which is a critical component of quality assurance, meticulously monitors students’ achievement of program competencies and satisfaction levels, thereby promoting a culture of quality

10)     Develops lifelong learning programs based on the belief that access to tools for self-improvement is a fundamental right for individuals of all ages. It aims to eliminate potential problems in the learning process through distance education materials and to enhance educational quality, teaching values, and effectiveness without interruption by creating alternative platforms to increase dialogue among shareholders.
